A Journey of Visual and Written Expression
-
I want to paint the equivalent of Lou Reed’s “New York”.
-
In my work, I try to reflect self-awareness and/or a social consciousness by representing subjects that trigger a sense of nostalgia for me.
-
A good image should feel like a good relationship, fresh but familiar.
-
Embrace imperfections. Don’t be afraid of exposing elements of your process. It brings humanity to a painting.
-
When painting representationally do not paint the subject. Instead focus on the interplay of observed shapes and space. Remember color is also a value of light and dark. The subject will reveal itself with time.
