Absurdity of Color

“The Absurdity of Color” explores the associative or symbolic nature of color and how it contributes to our interpretation of meaning and individual truth, as well as how we sometimes are quick to draw conclusions when reality is far more complex. The painting is a collection of 9 similarly composed canvases. Much of the imagery, similar to how we consume information, is drawn from and is easily accessible on the internet. Each canvas, representing a single color, addresses specific themes (history, art history, music, race, environment, gender identity, etc.). However, there is no “single source of truth” within a single color; no “black and white” answers. Rather, the combination of canvases is intended to lead the viewer to make continuous connections across the full spectrum of colors to formulate deeper meanings and personal interpretations of my intent as the artist as well as reflect on their own personal beliefs.
