What to Paint

Don’t paint what you believe will be commercially viable. Likewise don’t try to be intentionally shocking. Paint what is in your mind, heart, and spirit. An artist’s success is not measured by sales, but by the satisfaction of satiating the intellect. As an artist you have the opportunity of sharing your unique perspective with the world. It is your journey. Pour your authentic self into your work. Whether everybody understands or even likes the output is of little consequence. Don’t shy away from challenging the conventions of yourself or the viewer. If the work is an authentic expression and demonstrates competence of composition and medium, its legitimacy will stand on its own.
