  • Cultural norms inform how an object is perceived. As well our personal experiences and the manner in which content is delivered informs our interpretation of meaning. 
  •  The ceiling fan in my grandfather’s workshop was made from a lawn mower blade.

  • Meaning has many intersecting layers.
  • Symbols form the foundation for language and language is used to explain meaning. The success of communication depends upon delivering the intended level of precision for the language being used.
  • Literal description suggests absolute truth, but true meaning is often subject to interpretation.
  • “Figures lie when liars figure.” — Professional colleague and mentor  
  • News ceases to be fact when it tells you what to think.
